Kuju Email is in private development. This page describes the platform as it will ship, so you can evaluate it before we open. Get notified at launch or read the overview.
Kuju Email · mail apps
Mail apps that connect to us directly.
We support mail apps that connect to our servers directly from your phone or computer. Some popular apps instead copy your mail, or your password, to their own company's servers. We don't support those, or any app we suspect of doing it, because your mail would then be held somewhere our security commitments don't reach.
In webmail, open Settings → Mail apps and download the profile. Open it, install it, and enter your password when Mail asks. The profile is signed, so your device shows it as verified, and it never contains your password.
Thunderbird, on the desktop and on Android
Enter your name, email address and password. Thunderbird finds the server settings itself. On Android it may ask you to confirm the settings it found; check that they match the settings below.
FairEmail (Android)
Enter your email address and password. FairEmail finds the server settings itself.
Samsung Email
Choose manual setup and enter the settings below. The server names Samsung Email suggests on its own are not ours.
Not confirmed yet
Gmail app on Android
We have not yet checked whether the Gmail app connects to our servers from your phone or from Google's. Until we have, we don't list it as supported. We will update this page when we know.
Outlook (classic) for Windows
Classic Outlook connects to our servers directly, but we have not built or tested set-up for it. The manual settings may work; we don't support it yet.
Apps we don't support, and why
Outlook for iPhone, iPad and Android, and new Outlook for Mac
Microsoft says that when you add an account to these apps, “a copy of your email, calendar, and contacts will be synchronized between your email provider and Microsoft data centers” (Microsoft Support). Your mail would be stored at Microsoft as well as with us.
New Outlook for Windows
An independent test by heise's c't magazine found that when an IMAP account is added, new Outlook sends the server name, user name and password to Microsoft (heise, November 2023). We exclude apps suspected of handing your password to a third party.
Spark
Readdle, the company behind Spark, says it stores an access token for each account, and that for custom IMAP accounts like yours “this access token is your email login and password”. For notifications it also stores “the subject and a part of your message” on its servers (Readdle).
Gmail app on iPhone and iPad
We believe the Gmail app on Apple devices reaches other providers through Google's servers. Until that is shown not to be so, we don't support it.
Settings for any other app
For Samsung Email, or to check what an app filled in for you:
Incoming mail (IMAP)
mail.kuju.email, port 993, SSL/TLS
Outgoing mail (SMTP)
mail.kuju.email, port 465, SSL/TLS or mail.kuju.email, port 587, STARTTLS
User name
Your full email address, for both
Password
Your account password, or an app password from Settings → Security in webmail. With two-factor authentication on, only an app password works.
The same settings, filled in for your account, are in webmail under Settings → Mail apps.
